Unlocking the True Essence of Leadership: Separating Managers from Leaders

Leadership...!!!, one of the most discussed and advertised topics in the last few decades, which took a boom now in the past couple of years.

We have all heard, "Every manager is a Leader, but all leaders are not Managers". But, there's a difference between the two. Managers have power invested in them to get done a task or "LEAD" a project done with proper planning and projection, Train the team for the same by implementing and monitoring them. Yup, they do LEAD, but they lead by authority.

Leaders also lead a TEAM, but they follow a transformational approach, create a Vision, and find different ways to achieve the GOAL. They perform a task or show how to do them, motivate the team, influence the team, and leaders lead by inspiring the team. Leaders must not have proven themselves for a particular GOAL but know ways to do it or find a way to do it, e.g. Teachers, are Leaders in their field who creates many more leaders in course of time.

An inefficient Manager leads to reduced productivity, loss of motivation of employees, and an inefficient workflow, while an inefficient Leader leads to a misaligned organisation’s culture. That's why it is very important to understand the style of the approach of the Leadership Role.

  • You are a Leader if you coach rather than just create Goals.
  • You are a leader if trust and empower your team rather than just ensuring structure and system.
  • You are a leader if you constantly look forward and work through change for the long haul, creating Vision rather than focusing on short-term goals.
  • If you take a risk instead of controlling it, you are a leader.
  • You are a good leader if you value and build a relationship instead of just building systems and processes.
  • If you prefer to coach, not to direct, you are a leader.
  • if you have fans, not just employees and subordinates, you are a true LEADER.
